THRILLED to find the Goody Ouchless Flex BarrettesI was THRILLED to find the Goody Ouchless Flex Barrettes. These are extremely hard to find, but so easy to lose. Others have commented about them being so easy to break, junk, etc. I disagree. While they're not the same quality as a metal barrette, they last if you take care of them. These are the ONLY barrettes that don't give me horrible headaches. I plan to buy more, even if these do break!5Tired of trying to contain your THICK hair with clips, elastic bands & poorly made barrettes that break? Try this one...This basic barrette is by no means fancy, and I had doubts about it when it arrived, but it has exceeded my expectations and holds all of my hair (which is very THICK). I used to go through elastic bands like crazy but prolonged use of those started causing some hair breakage at the "pony tail lines". My hair stylist advised me to look for something easier on my hair. So, I switched to barrettes. A few months ago, as I had one in my hair and was standing in line at the supermarket, the clasp broke and the barrette flew outta my hair and hit the guy behind me. He wasn't hurt, and while it was funny (more to him than I), I was beyond irritated. Thick hair needs to be contained and most products just can't do it. Well, this barrette is different in design and function. I've been using it for about 3 months now. No more breakage in the sections of hair I attach it to and no more slingshot acrobatics in public. Best part; these barrettes are very inexpensive.5It works well keeping my long, straight hair up.I like it. I wish it had a wee bit stronger grip, but at least it doesn't pull my hair out when I remove it.I have straight, sort of fine hair, medium thickness. It's long, not down to my waist, but still long. I put it in a ponytail at my neck, then pull my hair up and fold it back down once (too lazy to do an actual bun), and this clip is able to hold my folded ponytail pretty well. After several hours, it will slip down a bit, but I can quickly remove it and repeat the process. It's such a soft clip, I can even sleep in it with no discomfort. I mostly wanted something to keep my hair up on hot days, and this works great for that.4Great product and they really are ouchless! These are great little barretts. They are truly ouchless. At first glance they look flimsy and you wonder how they will hold, but I have thick hair and they are wonderful and hold quite well. I use the small ones to hold my bangs and side hair up and then use the larger ones to hold the back of my twisted updo. The back one has to handle alot of hair because my hair is ong and when twisted, it strains most typical barrestts. I never feel a pinch or a tug and there are no horrible barrette headaches that you get at the end of a long day with other barrette. I can wear an updo all day long without hairspray and it never falls out. There are tiny little soft 'teeth' inside the barrette that at first glance look like they'd be useless but they really do hold the hair and I am so comfortable that I forget I have them in. I have even worn the large one on the back of my head to hold a twisted updo whist lying on my back for an hour and a half last extention appointment. I was totally comfortable. I love the brown color because it blends with my hair nicely and my barrette is not competeing with my make-up or jewelry for attention. The price on these little guys can get steep since they seem to be hard to find, but they are worth the couple dollars because you will save time and frustration and money over buying others that won't work as well.5Complete WasteI purchased this barrette after reading how happy people were with the comfort of not having a bulky clip that interferes with leaning back or lying down. I was so ready to love it because I just can t get comfortable with a clip in my hair. I m sorry to say that this updo barrette broke while it was in my hair the second time I used it. It is garbage and I would not purchase it again. Im so disappointed.1Barrettes I've always had trouble with barrettes, even as a new born baby (hairy baby) because they just don't make them to accommodate thick hair. For most of my grown life I've used those leather ones with a stick you push through your hair since they do stretch a bit and you can sometimes get the leatherworker to make you an extra large one. But the stick will come out if you sleep in them, and they don't do well when wet. So I was pleased when Goody came out with these. Sure, they still aren't large enough to accommodate my dry hair wound around in a semi-bun--just way too much hair for them. And I no longer wear ponytails. I use them to hold my hair when I shower, and I use them to keep my hair twisted around on my head as the purple shampoo (for white hair) gets it's 2-3 mins of saturation time on my hair. Since there is no metal involved, there's nothing to rust. HOWEVER, these are another cheap product made in China. The circular teeth piece comes unglued within about a month or sooner so I've had to glue every single one of these I've owned (maybe 12 so far). The back "stick" part rips. The part that "hinges" rips or tears so it starts catching on your hair. Once the thing starts tearing, I toss it out because I can't do fix it so it's useless. It's just so sad. But I've had trouble with all the metal ones too--they fall apart so easily. So do the other all plastic barrettes. Like I said, they don't make barrettes anymore for thick luscious hair anymore (they used to, I used to be able to buy these awesome barrettes way back in the day). And now you know why not so many females are growing their hair long, long, long anymore. 3Great and non-damaging for ponytails I bought a bunch of these after I tried them because I always want a stash. They are great for ponytails that don't hurt, don't damage your hair, and don't slide out, no matter the thickness of your hair. They also look better and more polished than the regular elasticized hair ties that are so common. I have been using these for years and have had good luck with sturdiness as well. Only one has broken on me and it was my fault as I pushed the mechanism too hard. 5oh my goodness why did it take so long to find theseI can't believe I just found these things! They are exactly what I have wanted for yeeeears. I just got them today and honestly I'm already ordering more. I don't even care if they break after a couple of months, they'd still be worth it (although since I just got them I can't comment on their longevity - they do seem sturdy). They hold really well, they are attractive, I love the flexibility, and I did a big head-shaking test and it didn't budge an inch. THANK YOU GOODY!5Classic lookI bought these (and the large sized barrette too) on the recommendation of my daughter because metal barrettes break my hair so easily. Out of the two sizes I purchased, I prefer these small ones better just because they are so versatile and really do hold quite a bit of hair... I have long hair that I pull the front up and clip at the back crown of my head. It turns out perfect with these.I am middle aged and even though these barettes are good for children, they look great on a woman of my age too...Classic look, very pretty. (see my uploaded photo) .. No breakage that I have noticed.Bottom line... They are quite soft and pliable... hold well without any pinching or pulling or breaking. My hair stays in place and managed all day long.5Flexible, comfortable, holds day thru night, and is very affordable! Love it!!!These are really nice; took a few times before I got it to do what I needed but once I learned....gosh these are great!!!I love being able to twist my hair in the morning and slipping a claw clip in and head out the door. That's all well and fine..BUT I also hate, hate, hate hair on my neck while I sleep. And anyone else who sleeps with a claw clip in their hair knows how incredibly uncomforatable that feels. Hence, my search for more recent inovations to the hair clip industry which led me to this item.I need a little gel or spray in my hair to get this clip to work, but my hair is thinning due to medical problems (and that's on top of the thinness I've had since chemo). With a little gel, this clip is AWESOME!!! Slept with it in my hair last night and what a joy!!!I was actually very surprised when I started slipping it in my twisted hair that my first thought was "there is no way this clip will take in all this "glob" of twisted hair but I pressed on. And let me tell you...it can take on a large amount of hair gathered in one place! And hold it - and hold it some more - and more - and even through sleep. Never thought it possible with this clip but it truly has won me over!It is made of flexible plastic which allows it to be able to take in a large "glob" of hair with no problem. It holds without the clip pressure against your skull that you get from a claw clip. And it STAYS PUT where you put it all day and all night. Such a simple little hair accessory but really effective and easy to use. And like I said, even with thin hair with a little product in it, it works just as well.I've never seen this in any store so when I came across it on Amazon I was intrigued. Read the wonderful reviews and took the plunge and placed my order and so glad I did!5The BEST hair clip I have ever used! These clips deserve their high rating. First, they are easy to use. Second, although I have a lot of hair, it is thin and many clips don't stay in my hair. These stay put, day and night. Third, they came with 3 clips. That enabled me to put one in my purse, one in the bathroom and another on the bedside table. Fourth, they are super comfortable. I put my hair up at night with this updo clip and I cannot feel it. No cold, hard metal or sharp edges. It doesn't dig into your scalp either. Fifth, the price is right. And thanks to Amazon, they arrived on the promised delivery date and packaged well. I would definitely buy these again and encourage others to purchase these. You won't be sorry! 5Not durable, only lasts 6 months or lessUpdate 4/23/16: I've only had these barrettes for 6 months, I don't use them much at all, and the part (rubber-type material) that holds the clip in place is already detached from the main body (hard plastic) of the barrette. This has happened for more than one barrette. Because of this problem, the barrettes are looser than normal and won't hold up to use for much longer.I've uploaded a picture showing the problem. On the left is the whole barrette. On the right is a zoomed in picture of the part that's detached. The arrow points to a gap that shouldn't be there because the 2 parts should be attached to each other.***Just a note about the colors: I wanted the black color and was a little hesitant to buy these because the description said the colors were "assorted". I ordered 2 packs of the ones sold by Amazon.com, and luckily, one pack had 2 black and the other had 1 black and 1 brown. It would be nice if you could select specific colors instead of getting random ones.2Work beautifully for keeping my hair from tangling in my CPAP headwearI have thin, fine hair, but it is long (down below my waist) and I was tired of either having it tangled in the CPAP mask head strap or having to attempt to pin it up sufficiently ( I am a sensitive side sleeper and everything clip and pony tail band I used was uncomfortable at some point in the night). Then I found one of these in a box from years back and decided to try it for this purpose -- they are strong enough to keep my hair up, are soft/flexible enough to not annoy me when I accidentally lay on it while turning or sleeping while still moving enough with my hair that it doesn't tear my hair or get hung up when I shift. I'm so glad Amazon carries these as I have been unable to find them in stores and they are comfortable enough that I sometimes forget to take my hair down in the morning and if I take them out away from the bed, the cats often steal the barrette and bat it under things, so I like having spares. For anyone curious as to how these work, I braid my hair, then wrap it into a long roll starting at the base, tucking the ends in at the bottom. I then fold the roll, wiggle out two braid loops with my fingers and grab a small piece of the hair against my scalp and slide the barrette into the first loop, under the scalp hair and into the last loop. It holds the hair up, while being easily maneuverable to best fit above the headgear strap, yet it moves smoothly when needed. If you have thicker hair, you might prefer the large one -- I've tried both and the small clips work best for me.5Functionally great, but tortoise finish scrapes off easilyThis works very well on my 5-year old's long, thick hair. We had been using both elastic and rubber hair bands for years, but both (particularly the rubber ones) took their toll. At a recent salon visit for a trim, the stylist pointed on where her hair was getting badly frayed at the spots where we make her pony and pigtails. These barrettes hold her hair tightly all day and with no fraying, although it didn't take long for me to realize that I should have purchased the next size up, even though she's just 5. My one problem with this product is that the tortoise finish is not part of the molded barrette material itself. Instead, it's just painted on, and has slowly scraped off over the past 6 weeks of use. So, great product, but it really looks bad after just 1-2 months of use.I don't recall where we bought them, but we have 2 of these in more of a solid brown finish and they don't have the same issue.3Military Women's Long Hair RegulationsThese are the BEST barrettes. Great hold, no hair damage. Unfortunately, they do wear out rather quickly (the rubbery catch tears), so I buy them by the dozen. Perfect for military women and other women with long hair which MUST stay up and controlled. I believe they are made in a blond shade, which matters because Army regulations specify that any hair-holding device must be either not visible OR the same color as the woman's hair.5
