Amazing eyelash curler, but it always cracks and has to be replaced I love this lash curler - it gives my lashes an amazing curl and it's great for travel because it's so compact. However, the issue that I've repeatedly had is that the plastic at the back of the curler always ends up cracking. Once this happens, you have to buy a new one. I've had to replace this curler once every 6 months or so because it always cracks in the same place. I don't mind because it's a fairly inexpensive eyelash curler and I haven't found a one that gives a better curl. I'm including a photo of what a cracked eyelash curler looks like (crack is on the right side). Maybe one day they'll use a more durable material on the back so the curler doesn't crack? Regardless, it's a great eyelash curler for the price 4If only they wouldn t keep breaking......... I ve purchased several of these with my last purchase being in January, 2019. The reason I ve had to keep buying them is because they break. The piece you bold to close the curling portion around your eyelashes kept breaking. I broke down and bought another one in January and I was very careful as to how where I placed my finger on the piece to squeeze this on my eyelashes. I decided if I held it closer to the curling part rather than just grabbing it and most of the time pressing at the end it wouldn t break. Well this time it broke and this is the shortest time I ve had one. I wish there was some way they could design the piece which keeps breaking differently. I ve decided I m not going to order this product again. One time previously I ordered two because I knew at some point it would break and I d have one as a backup rather than having to order a replacement and wait on it. Good luck with yours should you decide to try this product. 1Mediocre Travel CurlerThere was a time, that I thought the JAPONESQUE curler was superior to other curlers. It just has so many rave reviews! Around the time of my first purchase, I also learned how to properly use an eyelash curler, which is (at least in my eyes) to hold, and them do a couple of squeezes, and then hold again for a couple more seconds.Since I was new to makeup, I confused correlation with causation, and figured this little curler was the reason my eyelashes looked so great. This is why I bought another one when the first broke after a month or two. And then I bought another one (in black!). And then, when that one broke, I bought the fancy 14 dollar high arch one... And then when that one broke...I bought an old-fashioned metal curler from a drugstore and my lashes look just as great as ever because of good genes and good technique, and great mascara. The only way I could recommend this MASSIVELY OVERRATED, CHEAP, PLASTIC curler, would be as a staple for your travel bag, because of the cute, pocket-size design. If you intend to use it as a an everyday tool, prepare to shell out the cash every couple of months for new one, because the little plastic hinge at the back is going to snap. And maybe, a little chunk of plastic is going to fly into your eye, as it once did for me.Anyone looking for a knock off may do well to look for their local DAISO store. I found generic JAPONESQUE curlers for like $1.50.YES, A DOLLAR FIFTY.At that price, I would have given this piece more stars. Hopefully they are recyclable.2Second one broke within the first 3 months. This is the second one of these I've purchased. The first one lasted almost a year. Then the plastic hinge broke. This one is less than 3 months old, and already there are cracks along the eyelash edge. I'm afraid if I keep using it that it will splinter and hit me in the eye or yank out my eyelashes in the little cracks. Although this design seems to work better than the huge ones that you can't get close enough to your lash line, they just don't last. I guess that's why they can advertise that they will replace the pads for the life of the curler. With the short life of the curler, no one must ever need the replacement pads. I guess I'll see if I can find one in a sturdier material.2Works well but breaks too often!I have bought this eyelash curler 4 times already. I love the design of the curler; pink, small, and compact to fit in any makeup bag. It comes with a free refill of at the bottom and a guarantee of free refills once that runs out. The shape of the curler is not too curved as fits the shape of my Asian eyes very well. At first but I was super happy with it!I bought my first one 3 years ago and after a few months the left hinge broke. I tried fixing it with super glue, but this plastic doesn't adhere very well. So I bought another one, deciding that it was with the money since it worked very well. However, I found myself breaking all of them after 6 months tops of daily use. After the 4th one broke, I decided to try another curler since this one ends up costing way more money than a shu uemura which has lasted my sister for years already.Though this is a really nice curler, it breaks quite easily. In the end it is more expensive to keep re buying this curler than buying a more expensive one and occasionally buying refills.3This is my favorite. I haven t tried any others since I bought ...I bought this on 4/1/15. Over the past 30 years I have searched and tried any curler I could find I ve spent a lot on heated ones and expensive cosmetic line curlers, and I have purchased very inexpensive ones. This is my favorite. I haven t tried any others since I bought this because I love this one. It finally broke today, after almost 2 years of use, so I just ordered another, which also made me realize that I should write a review. It is compact and fits into my makeup bag. It is easy to use, once you get used to the difference from the common scissor-type of curler. You need apply only the gentlest of pressure. Most important, it makes a beautiful curled lash that stays all day.5Awesome Curler, A MUST have item in your makeup bag!Ever since I first started curling my eyelashes at the age of 12, I have always used heated eyelash curlers. I've always had great results with them, because my eyelashes are very, VERY straight. The main problem I had with the heated eyelash curler was that if I was in a hurry, I couldn't curl my lashes because it took too long to heat. Also, I would always have to replace the battery every month or so. My final reason for searching for a normal lash curler was the fact that the heated curlers didn't keep my lashes curled throughout the day, so I wanted to try something different. So,I searched all over Google and read review after review, which pointed me to purchase a Japonesque eyelash curler (either the "Go Curl" or "Power Curl"). I have never heard of this brand before, so I was very skeptical about purchasing a product that I have never heard of. However, after reading a lot the positive and negative reviews, I felt that the compact curler was worth the purchase. After receiving the curler, I was extremely pleased by my purchase. I tested the curler by wearing no mascara all day to see how well it maintained the curl of my lashes...the curled lashes lasted ALL DAY! That is the first time that has every happened to me before. Then my second test was to see how it would handle the weight of mascara while still maintaining my curled lashes...FLAWLESS! I would go and purchase this product immediately if you are unsatisfied with your eyelash curler. If you still are not sold, I'll even list the pros and cons that I noticed about the product:PROs1. Compact shape and color(I got Pink!): this is a major plus because you can take it anywhere and it looks very cute! ^-^2. Easy to use: I know some people complained about it not being easy to use, but it actually really is! All you have to do is have the top pink part that is curved touch your lid where your eyelashes begin. Then, you just press down on the flap to curl your lashes. Hold it for 10 secs. and you will have instantly curled lashes!3. Comes with FREE pad refills: I don't know about you, but who doesn't like free stuff? Not only does it come with an extra pad conveniently tucked in the base, but they offer you free refills as well! I've read reviews where the eyelash curlers don't offer refills to even be purchased, and you have to buy an entirely new one to use it! That's just silly. Also, why buy a curler where you have to purchase refill pads, when you can get them for free?CONs1. It is delicate: Because it is plastic, it does seem like it is going to break at any moment when you press on the flap to curl your lashes. But in order to curl them, you really don't need to press on the flap too hard. I think many people are used to squeezing their normal curlers and think that you need to apply the same amount of pressure in order to have nicely curled lashes. But that is so not true with this curler. So always lightly press when using this product.I'm so happy with my purchase, and thought that I should share the love. Hope this helps!5What Happens When You Press On a Thin Piece of Plastic? It BREAKS!It's adorable and fits in my makeup case. It's pink! . It's plastic. It breaks. The first one lasted about 8 weeks. I only bought it because it was PINK, and it caught my eye. They replaced it, and that one lasted about 6 weeks, even with the "special instructions" the lady provided. When I bought this pink curler, I was replacing the Japonesque Power Curl - the "regular" metal one which worked well for several years, like 2 or 3, after which, the "free" refills stopped working - they would slip right out. Planned obsolesence? I was taken in by marketing both times. The first Japonesque purchase on Amazon was when I got rid of my Maybelline curler I had owned & used, probably since I started using it in the late 70s! Why? It worked. It was loose, after years of use, but it still worked, as did the refills you paid for at the drug store. I confess, that was a bad idea. I went for "this year's model," and the reviews were good. And FREE refills! That seemed so awesome, I felt. What a great company, I thought. So when the refills stopped working, I got rid of the "Power" curler, but stuck with Japonesque, thinking they had earned my loyalty. Like so many Saturn owners who put up with a lot of issues because they were loyal.. Anyhow, fast forward to the first broken pink curler: the lady told me the specific "instructions" on how to place my finger on it & press, she SPECIFICALLY said the replacement would be an unused sample from their office and that it would be the ONLY one I'd get. So when the second one breaks, you are out of luck. So I gave it 2 stars because, it's PINK! But it should probably get only 1 due to the customer service being a bit nasty, and hard to get ahold of. And because the products don't last. BTW, The "form" on the website didn't work, I got no reply, so finally, I called them. So here's a photo my broken second one. I went back to the "old school" metal curler from Walgreens. Did I go back to Maybelline, who deserves my loyalty? No, I got a Tweezerman. Why? It's PINK!2Works but breaks easilyIt works well to curl lashes. I didn't use it until 2 weeks ago and I was impressed with how well it worked.Sadly the handle snapped off shortly after.1A must for Asian eyelidsSuper straight Asian eyelashes here. This has been my go-to eyelash curler for over a decade. Prior to discovering this wonderful little tool, I had been using the standard metal curlers. Those never worked well for me because the curve on the plates were always more pronounced than my eyelids are. It s a bit difficult to imagine if you don t struggle with the same issue, but imagine your eyelid as flat surface, say, a table, and a curler as a banana. It just doesn t lie flat. Well, that was always the issue I had with standard metal curlers. And I m not talking just one brand. I had tried countless brands but all had the same issue. I had even tried a heated curler with a comb wand. Still didn t work. This cute little compact eyelash curler has allowed me to quickly and flawlessly curl my lashes without struggle. The only negative thing I have to say is the plastic hinge on this curler eventually cracks after several months of use. I ve gone through maybe 13 of this bad boys, but for the price, I don t mind. Better this than paying for falsies.5Amazon sent me a replacement for free and the new one works fine. The degree of curve that fits the eye ...Bought the Go Curl in pink. I ordered one and some part of it was a little loose so when I tried to curl my lashes, the two ends met weirdly and actually pushed my straight lashes downwards. Complete opposite result of what a curler should do. Amazon sent me a replacement for free and the new one works fine. The degree of curve that fits the eye is less (so a little flatter) than a normal curler. My eyes aren't deep set so that's actually better for me.Pros: -free refills on the little rubber pads. Just go to the japonesque website to order.-less pinching at the corners because it's open on the ends-easier to curl the corner of my eye lashes because the Go Curl is flatter than a normal curler-easier to pack because it isn't an awkward normal eyelash curler shape.Cons: -plastic construction so more delicate.-more of a natural looking curl than a dramatic night out curl.3one of the best curlers I've ever usedMade the mistake of pressing down with too much pressure to curl my lashes and that gradually caused the plastic back of the curler to crack at the hinge completely on the left side. I've been using it for a few months. Didn't realize it was cracking until I saw other reviews talking about it. Currently, the right side of the plastic hinge is also starting to crack. This doesn't pinch my eyelid like the traditional metal curler; I love it! Only thing is that it isn't long enough to curl the lashes along the ends of my eyelids so I always have to go back and curl along the edge of my eyes.Considering the long lasting curls it gives me, low price, compactness and cuteness, I'd buy this again! It won't last forever but it's still one of the best curlers I've ever used! Just need to remember to press lightlly on the hinge when curling5
