Bang for the buck razor for beginners. I bought this razor back in Sept 2011. Now in 2017, it finally bit the dust. The threads from the top piece do not catch the threads in the handle. But 6 years for a $10 razor is amazing. First the positives- (1) Long handle, over 4 inches with good grip (2) Not too heavy (3) Cheap.Back in 2011 I had caught on to the DE blade shaving craze, mostly to save money. Since I was just getting started, I decided to start with something cheap. So, bought this razor along with Shark 100 pack blades. The combination of this razor with Shark blades worked great for me. I also tried Derby blades, but did not have as much success with them, could barely get 2 or 3 shaves out of those blades.I have a really tough beard and usually shave every 2 or 3 days. I also shave after taking a shower (but not in the shower) as it softens the beard. I always got a great shave, I could easily manage 5 to 7 shaves with a single Shark blade. I usually do 3 passes with the razor, first pass is along the direction of hair in the beard, second pass is against the direction of hair in the beard. The final finish pass is also against the direction of hair in the beard. I have also tried other razors like Merkur 23C long handle (to heavy) and Edwin Jagger DE89Lbl (Grip too smooth and slipper, also too mild for my beard) but this razor worked best for me.On the negative side, this razor is made of aluminium or some kind of alloy and cannot compete with other more expensive razors in the looks department. But then again, for the price, one would not expect it to. Overall, it is a great work horse and great value for money. Highly Recommended! 5Not Bad at All I have mixed emotions with this one. It is ugly, the finish it not great, I hate the handle, and the shave is not great. But it is not bad either. And for the price this is a great razor to try DE shaving or to keep as a travel razor (what I do). I changed the handle to something more useful and I don't mind taking it everywhere since it does the job, and if I lose it, oh well...Recommended, but there are tons out there way better. But not at this price. 4Great value for the money, a very nice razor. I bought my husband a Merkur for Valentine's day, 2011. He loved it so much that I bought myself one of that same model. The craftsmanship and beauty of the Merkur won me over not to mention the exceptional reviews given to the particular Merkur razors that I ended up going with. The only thing I didn't like about the Merkur was the price. The particular model Merkur I selected cost around $32 back in February. However when I purchased mine in July it had gone up to around $36 or so. Fast forward to making Christmas plans when I decided that we were enjoying the comfort of wet shaving so much that I would put together a wet shave kit for the sensitive-skinned guys on my shopping list. Feeling the pinch of the tight economy and hoping that the Merkur model I was so fond of had dropped back down in price I hopped online to Amazon only to discover that now the same model razor was going for around $42 each. No way, I thought so I went in search of a good quality, economical razor. I had completely overlooked and not even noticed the Lord before. For the price I assumed it must be a piece of junk and so I went on in search of a high quality razor even if a bit pricey. Even though the Lord was enjoying several good reviews here on Amazon I was still afraid of getting what I paid for if I went cheap. After reading everything on Amazon written about the L6 Lord though I thought it was at least worth researching a bit more. After browsing a few different wet shaving sites I decided to put my question to the wet shaving, double edge blade loving crowd at Badger & Blade. What I received back in answer to my question were many very honest opinions regarding the Lord. Firstly, the guys who responded insisted that I get the Merkur-type head of the L6 and not the tech head available on what I believe is the previous model (the L5 I think?). Overall, everything they said sounded like this was one really good performance razor that while lacking in the craftmanship and beauty as compared to a Merkur, was still nice looking. I'd like to think of it as comparing a Mercedes Benz to a Honda. I needed four shave kits and needed a good quality, nice looking razor that would look great in a shave kit, perform extremely well, and cost enough to allow room in my budget to add soaps, dishes, badger brushes, razors etc... So I took the plunge and bought four. After tucking them away in my "Christmas storage space" I pulled them out a week or so ago. My husband and I decided to pull them out of the packaging (which looked cheap anyway and had obviously bad grammar printed on the back - I'm no grammar snob but this was pretty obvious). We placed each razor in it's little decorative box to create the shave kit along with the other goodies. I have to say that I agree with the boys at Badger & Blade. The razor is heavy but not nearly as heavy as the Merkur (actually I think it's better and the Merkur is too heavy). It has a nice weighted balance and a nice overall feel to it - it doesn't feel cheap at all. It isn't tacky in the least. In fact it looks awfully good (just don't hold it next to the Merkur or it does look fairly plain). My husband and I even ran the head of the Lord against our palms to get a feel and both admitted that if it wasn't exactly the same as the Merkur it was close to it. No, the craftsmanship isn't there the way it is in the Merkur. In a few of the razors the head isn't perfectly aligned just right, the decorative pattern on the handle feels like it's going to give you a "paper cut" if you slide it through your hand too fast, and it may have a few nicks here and there. But, despite all of that it's truly a great razor. It has character, it feels balanced and friendly in your hand, and it promises to deliver a great shave which I have no doubt it will. For me it was very simple - either find an affordable razor or find some other gift to give. I've bought four and well, although I don't regret buying the two Merkur razors, they are great but for the money I do honestly believe the Lord L6s will turn out just as well (although not as pretty).P.S. I'm going to try my best to remember to come back and update after the gift giving to see how the guys like their razors and how well they shave. 5Prefer it over Merkur Pros: nice long handle, more feminine appearance than most safety razors.Cons: haven't found any yet.I purchased this because my husband hates to share a razor, but after I got him a Merkur for his birthday, I just had to try it. Turns out I preferred it way more than disposable cartridge razors. I just can't make myself spend that much on a razor just for myself, so here I am.The handle is aluminum, so it feels light overall, but not flimsy. The detailing on the handle is nice and provides a nice grip while looking just a little bit nicer from a lady's perspective. The head is stainless, so nice a smooth, not grabby like the aluminum parts. Simple to unscrew for changing the blade and rinsing after use.I actually like shaving my legs with this vs. the Merkur due to the angle that I naturally hold this at given the longer handle. With this one it is more of a brainless activity, whereas with the Merkur I had to be sure I was holding it just so.If you want to try shaving with a safety razor for the first time, I highly recommend this one. Mine came with one Lord brand blade which I find to be alright, but I prefer Derby Extra. 5Really of one of the best shaving bargains out there! I bought this for my son to see if he wanted to try wet shaving. At the time I was using a vintage razor and thought he might want to experiment. He didn't and I ended up using it myself. This has got to be one of the best values out there! If you take care of it I think it will last you several years. The ease of use combined with the comfort and quality of the shaves you'll get makes this a great razor for anyone from a beginner, a frugal shaved, or someone who needs a spare!I recently just got a Merkur 180, which the Lord 6 is based on and while it IS a much better razor, with much better quality, the Lord shaves nearly as well for less than half the price! This IS the razor I recommend to anyone on the fence about trying wet shaving! For the price those who want to experiment can do so without much remorse at the same time use a razor that will give them a great shave with just a minimal amount of learning curve. 5Decent Razor, under $10 Great Safety razor for less than $10. I purchased a few of these razors to go along with some custom shaving brushes I send out as gifts. Very good quality, and the seller (Wish4Star ) shipped them quickly. Lord is a brand manufactured in Egypt. That said the razors do have some fingerprints on the finish while in the packaging. Probably from a factory worker placing them into the packages, nothing that you can't wipe off with a paper towel. For less then $10 you get a decent Safety razor. The head and the base plate secure firmly in place. The spacing between the safety bar and the head is nice. The head holds the blade at the proper angle for a mild type double edge shave. The handle is long, light weight, and is comfortable in your grip. If you are trying out wet shaving and don't want to spend a fortune I'd recommend giving this razor a shot. 4Great starter razor but eager to upgrade --- INTRODUCTION ---I invested in an inexpensive set for shaving - this razor, the Van Der Hagen Men's Luxury, Shave Set, and 100 Astra Superior Premium Platinum Double Edge Safety Razor Blades; altogether, around $50.I really wanted to go with a Merkur Model 180 Long Handled Safety Razor or a solid vintage Gillette, but when it came down to it, I wanted to go the least expensive route possible for my entry package. The Lord L6 has performed well in this regard--I got more than I paid for, I feel, but I am eager to upgrade in the coming months. As wet shaving is a skill that requires time to develop, I know I'm not good enough to use this razor to it's fullest yet; once I feel like I've done the best I can with it, then I will upgrade.--- PROS & CONS ---Pros (Why it's worth the money): Solid, nice-feeling, metal construction. It's a three-piece safety razor--hard to get simpler than that. For the money, it's not bad. And it'll definitely get the job done.Cons (Why I'm eager to upgrade): Weight - I think I'd prefer a slightly heavier razor. As wet shaving requires letting the weight of the razor do the work, this feels as though it's lacking in that regard, at least for me. I'm definitely having to pull it down my face with the slightest pressure. And, as other reviewers have said, the threads are very shallow; basically you have a single twist. This isn't really a problem, so long as the threads don't strip... it just means you feel less secure with it.--- SUMMARY ---Overall, if you want a first time razor for wet shaving and want to get great value for the money, go with this guy. If you'd rather jump ahead to one you'll be happy with for years... perhaps spend a little more and get something like a Merkur. I'm happy for now, but I'm looking forward to upgrading. 4Newbie Safety Razor Review I must say, I was like a little kid in the candy store when this arrived. As a note I also bought a badger brush, shaving soap, and de blades here on amazon to start off my safety razor venture! They all arrived in the same shipping box and was well protected with the big inflated sort of balloon things that amazon uses to ship with.Anyway, I opened my Lord L6 razor and inserted the blade that it came with. Before I forget, I inspected the razor. I must say it was very shiny and the plating was great for a below $15 de razor. The weight felt nice to me as I was using the El cheapo 99 cent store 10 pack disposable razors, which those have no weight, just plastic and the cutting edge.I then looked at each side of the razor to see how far the actual blade stuck out. They both stuck out the same. Great, now I am in business! Lathered up and went the proverbial 3 pass method that I researched on a video site. It was great, but guess what, I think my technique was a little skewed as I still felt a small amount of stubble. Now onto day two for shave two, I like to use a new blade for every shave, I read that wet shavers like to get at least 3 shaves from a blade, the blades are cheap so my personal preference was to replace the blade. I bought a pack of 100 Derby blades right here on amazon and changed the blade, think it took less than 30 seconds.Man I tell you shave two was very good as I paid attention to my razor angle and shaved in smaller strokes. It was better than shave one.For shave 3 this is where I got virtually no stubble, remember I changed the blade with a new derby, it was smooth, I was a little faster, and I had most if not all of the stubble off. I attained BBS on my cheeks and very close to BBS below my neck.Down the road I plan to get more expensive razors, this razor will be my travel razor for sure!Do not hesitate to buy! 5A Very Good Razor I have been shaving with a double edge safety razor for many years, and have purchased a variety of them; Merkur, Edwin Jagger, Parker, just to name a few. The Lord L6 is as good as any of them and, in many cases, better. It certainly is not the finely machined instrument that the Merkur or even the Parker or Jaggers are, but it has other things going for it that make it work well for me. First, the weight of the razor is allocated much more to the head than to the handle (the handle being very light). This weighting is helpful for someone with a coarse beard such as me. Further, the head is built in such a way so as to produce a larger blade exposure; again, very helpful for someone with a coarse beard. Those things, coupled with the fact that the razor is a three-piece design, which keeps the blade very tight and steady, combine to give me a first rate shave (by the way, I use Feather blades in the razor - I have not tried the Lord blades that came with the razor).I was surprised, to say the least, that a double edge safety razor at this price point could work so well. I can't speak to the longevity of the razor, as I just bought it, but I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't last a very long time if properly cared for. This is not, by the way, to complain about the Merkurs, Jaggers and Parkers. Certain models of the Merkurs can also give a more aggressive shave, such as one can get with the Lord. The Jaggers and Parkers certainly get the job done, although the shave is less aggressive with them and I find that more "touch-ups" are needed. 5Surprise!! This razor completely destroyed my $60+ razor!! Whoa. Where did this gem com from?!?! She's definitely not the beautiful "Prom Queen", but this is one case where you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The shave experience from this razor matched or beat some of my most precision DE razors.I was not expecting that.I'll be purchasing a few more as travel razors and backups. I see this joining my "Magnificent 5" rotation. I could easily see this being used more than some razors I have that cost 10 times this price!! It's a purchase you will not regret. Some find the light handle distracting, I found it refreshing with outstanding grip and maneuverability. Blade angle and position is so dead on, it's scary.I don't know what kind of voodoo Lord used on this razor, but its working!! Buy 2!! 5
