Customer Reviews

Hand made quality Have been wet shaving for a few months and so got this to try since i figured step 2 was getting beyond the lather in a can. After ordering a Van Der Hagen shave kit, I tried the badger brush it came with and was highly disappointed by how well it performed so...back to the drawing board. After watching a few videos on youtube that recommended Semogue brushes highly, I decided to order this and take it for a spin. And wow. After day 1, I was sold. It shed a few hairs in the beginning, but that's par for the course for brushes I am told. I find that with creams I can get enough lather for a 3 pass shave with enough left for a fourth pass within 10 seconds and within 30 I can get the same amount of lather with the Stirling Naked And Smooth soap I recently got. The knot is a perfect balance of backbone/softness and as you break it in, it will only get better as the ends split. The handle is very comfortable to hold and has that old antique look to it that I love. Considering that this brush is only 15 bucks, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. 5Great lather, very short break in Got this when I dropped and broke an Omega brush I really liked. Went to buy it again, but the price went up quite a bit. Heard Semogue makes great boar hair brushes. Man, they really do. It did not have the notorious animal smell. It completely broke in after 2 shaves, but was comfortable enough right out of the box. This thing can generate a ton of lather and will really load up. Word of caution: If you use creams out of a jar or softer shaving soaps, you can blow through your cream/soap without trying. Little effort is best when loading the brush. 5Perfect fit After trying out an Omega, I'm very impressed with the quality of this brush. The handle is fantastic and the proportions are ideal for me. The hair is also very soft and started to break in after the first use. It also barely had any scent. I'm fairly certain this brush is given more care during construction than other boars. The 1305 is also one of the most popular Semogue's because it uses their "premium" grade boar hair (I did plenty of research), and I believe I made the right choice after reviewing all the models. The difference is very noticeable. If you don't care for the handle, the 830 is this exact knot in acrylic. 5Better than any badger brush! I started wet shaving over 40 years ago. All my brushes have been nothing but badgers: Best, Super Silvertips, etc... And thought my Simpson Commodore X3 Best Badger was as good as anyone could get. Then after reading that more and more badger users that have been trying out boars, then becoming boar converts. The two top boar brushes were the Omega Pro 48 and Semogue 1305. So out of curiosity I decided to give to try and went with the 1305. I keep Cella Crema and Mitchells Wool Fat in rotation. Let me tell you, this brush will build a lather much faster than any badger. And has still not shed one hair yet! I've put away all my badgers. The Semogue 1305 is now the only brush I use. I will not waste my money on another badger. The 1305 without a doubt the best brush I've ever used! For the price, you simply owe it yourself to give it a try. 5A 10 star brush With just one shave using this brush, I can tell this is going to be my favorite brush. Very soft comfortable bristles that make up a good lather.I have 3 other brushes I have used, a synthetic , a boar, and a badgere. The Semogue is vastly superior to any of those brushes.I use shaving cream. Trumpers and Boraso so far, but I am new to DE shaving and I will experiment with other Creams, Soaps, and Razors in the future. I have just ordered today a Merkur HD 34C. I have a Parker 99R and a couple of cheaper razors. I think I may have found my brush already.I was pleasantly surprised today when I use the Semogue today for the first time. Doesn't it feel great when you get MORE than your money'sworth? 5Just what i needed I'm only two years into my wet shaving journey and I've been really enjoying my badger brushes, but I was having some trouble working up a good lather on some harder shave soaps. I decided to give a boar brush a try and this one came highly recommended. Sure enough, it gets right into the hard pucks of shave soap in a way the badger never managed and whips up a great lather. I won't be throwing away my badger brush, but I will be sticking with the Semogue boar when approaching the harder pucks of shave soap. 5Great value and handcrafted old world craftsmanship Just received my 1305 today all the way from Portugal. This is a really nice looking boar brush with a cream and green handle. It is slightly longer than my model 830 and is very easy to use to whip up a cup full of rich lather. I really liked the stiffer feel of the boar bristles against my skin (as compared to the softer badger hair) and it did a fine job applying the lather to my face. I would recommend this brush to anyone looking for an economical boar bristle brush. Both the 830 and 1305 fit nicely in the Chrome Razor and Shaving Brush Stand from Super Safety Razors. 5Never wanted to try another brush I have had this brush for over 4 years and have been extremely pleased. The overall size is perfect. I do not prefer the smaller brushes. The bristles were not overly stiff or coarse initially and have softened more so with use. Ocassionally I lose a bristle here and there, but nothing excessive. The handle is handsome and unique with its shape and two tone coloring while being easy to hold and maintain a grip on. There were some imperfections in the green paint rippling when it arrived, but noting that caused any issues or failure during use. The bottom chipped when it was dropped into a tile floor in year 4. Not the fault of the brush. I have never used a badger brush so I can t give a comparison, but this brush has never made me want to try another. 5Very nice brush! Very nice brush and with a lot of backbone! I have much more expensive badger brushes. But I use them very little now that I own two different boar brushes. As Badger is simply way over rated and way to expensive in my view. And I find the curse of most brushes to be a handle that is to short. Leaving lather and water all over your hand! But the Semogue 1305 solves that problem as it has a nice long handle! I have not noticed any shedding of hair with either of my boar brushes at all! Mine have no odor issues at all as well. 5Doing a fine job so far; no major failures Buying this brush was my third stab at finding a decent shaving brush (all purchased from Amazon, but different makers). The bristles are mostly staying put in the handle, and, so far, (bought this brush back in November, 2018) I haven't had to glue the entire bristle bundle back into the handle, as I did with my two previous brushes. Single bristles fall out of the Semogue now and again, or get stuck in the shaving lather on my face, but I can live with that. This brush easily whips up a good lather, feels fine on the skin, seems very well made. Given my unfortunate experience with two previous shaving brush failures, I've got my fingers crossed with this one. I guess that's the best I can say about it, other than it has a sort of old-school, low-gloss look about it, sort of Euro-vintage, like something you'd expect to find in a neighborhood barbershop in Prague circa 1975. Certainly worth the money (below $16), and more, if it continues to hold together. Recommend, with high hopes and great expectations! 4
